A Romantic Voyage to the Heavenly Darjeeling!

Finally I got hitched to the woman of my dreams – My childhood sweetheart! After a whole lot of discussion, we mutually settled on the honeymoon destination. “Darjeeling” it was going to be! There was something naturally romantic about the place. Probably the greenery or the climate, but we had read and heard enough about it that we knew it was the apt place for us. Though Darjeeling isn’t the first choice for honeymoon travelers, our preference was this little town in West Bengal for all the right reasons!

My new bride (As she doesn’t wished to be named here, I am going to call her ‘K’) browsed and booked the flight tickets after checking dozen Domestic Airlines. We had to book flight tickets from Mumbai to Kolkata. From there we would have to travel by road. We were going to have a 3-day stay. Our bags were packed and ready. The typical India scene, you know! With parents and ever-so-curious relatives giving us their worldly wise gyaan and to-dos and not to-dos. Mom packed us a jar of pickles, our favorite. We took a cab and reached the Mumbai airport. Soon after than the regular airport body and luggage frisking and visa check.
We were jet-setting on a new journey of our lives together!

Once we reached the Kolkata airport, we hired a private vehicle and chauffeur who drove us 65.5 km to Darjeeling. During our journey to the hotel, I couldn’t help but gaze out of the window to see the beauty other than my beautiful wifey. Of course, I am talking about nature! It was spell binding and breathtaking scenery. We stayed in the Queen Suite at the Palace Resort. (I literally saved up months of salaries for this trip). The ambience in the resort was strikingly breathtaking. The trees, well-decked flowers, water fountains, architecture, it had a colonial touch to it. Even the amenities in the room spoke nothing but luxury and comfort.

We started our day with breakfast at the Niharika Restaurant, which was right opposite the hotel we were staying in. K couldn’t stop clicking away with her DSLR. She loves capturing the essence of beauty in everything.

We then headed to the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway which connects the towns and plains. In fact, they are the only ones who still have few steam locomotives that are still in service. And K and I wanted to experience riding in them. So we travelled in that and made our way to the Lloyd’s Botanical Garden, which preserved rare species of plants. We love exploring the place and clicking pictures. K and I are very close to nature so it was a special feeling altogether.

After that we had our lunch and then set out to visit the Jaldapara National Park. It was picturesque beauty. We were fortunate enough to spot hog deer, one-horned rhinoceros, elephants, and tigers. It made our time together and experience worthwhile.
Once we were done sightseeing, we retired for the day and made our way back to the hotel.

The next day was more excited and fun-packed.
First thing in the morning, I asked the hotel management to order 100 beautiful red roses and I gave them to K. She beamed with delight!

Post breakfast we did some shopping of souvenirs, jewelry and clothes for ourselves and our family. Then we proceeded to visit the famous Darjeeling tea gardens. Let me remind you that Darjeeling tea is internationally recognized among the most popular black teas in the world. The magnificent and lush tea gardens were a splendor. The heavenly aromas of the tea tempted us to stay around there forever but then we had to head back.

The next day was similar with more such sightseeing. I have to say Darjeeling is one such beautiful tourist destination that you just cannot afford to miss be it with their family or your spouse on your honeymoon.
It was time to bid goodbye to this cool and pleasant destination. But, not forever! We promised ourselves to come back and visit this place again. For the time being we were leaving with some cherishing memories that was going to stay in our hearts and some wonderful tales to narrate back home.

K and I headed to the airport after checking our Flight Schedule. And flew back with our love and fondness growing deeper.
Thankfully, Yatra took care of our journey – Right from the airlines to our accommodation, it ensured we had the time of our lives (without any hassles).
They say marriages are made in heaven, it’s true. But I say planning journeys are best executed by Yatra! J
